The Biological Matrix

A Natural Scaffold for Cellular Regeneration

Ophthalogix amniotic membrane provides a collagen-rich extracellular matrix that acts as a scaffold for migrating epithelial cells. The matrix of the amniotic membrane shares structural components with the corneal basement membrane.

Type IV and VII collagen — the same structural proteins found in the corneal basement membrane
Fibronectin and laminin anchor migrating epithelial cells to the scaffold
Hyaluronic acid provides hydration and anti-inflammatory signaling
Proteoglycans modulate cell migration and proliferation

The Healing Cascade

Modulating Inflammation. Supporting Repair.

Amniotic membrane contains regulatory proteins and cytokines associated with modulating inflammation on the ocular surface. Research has examined its effects on pro-inflammatory mediators involved in chronic ocular-surface disease.

Suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines: IL-1α, IL-1β, TNF-α
Inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that degrade the stromal matrix
Promotes TGF-β signaling pathways associated with wound healing
Supports goblet cell preservation and tear film stability

FORMULA/5™ Processing

Preserving the Regenerative Matrix. No Compromise.

The FORMULA/5™ minimal-manipulation processing technique is designed to preserve the biological components of the amniotic membrane. The process uses a gentle drying approach intended to maintain the structural integrity and biological activity of the regulatory proteins and growth factors present in the tissue.

No harsh chemicals — no solvents, no cross-linking agents, no detergent extraction
Minimal-manipulation drying preserves growth factor activity (EGF, bFGF, TGF-β)
E-beam sterilization provides enhanced sterility without chemical cross-linking
Processed in strict accordance with FDA 21 CFR Part 1271 and AATB standards
03FORMULA/5™ Processing
Why processing matters

Not all amniotic membrane is the same.

Processing influences the tissue matrix and its native proteins. FORMULA/5™ uses a minimal-manipulation approach intended to preserve tissue architecture without solvents or cross-linkers.

Growth factors preservedEGF, bFGF, TGF-β, PDGF
Processing methodMinimal-manipulation air-drying
Chemical treatmentsNone — no solvents or cross-linkers
SterilizationE-beam — no chemical cross-linking
